Afternoon Three-Vehicle Crash in Palm Springs Kills 3 Escondido Residents

 
PALM SPRINGS, CA (September 6, 2023) – Yovani Tapia, David Losacco and Millicent Lewis died in a three-vehicle accident in Palm Springs Saturday afternoon on September 2.
 
The fatal accident happened around 3:05 p.m. on North Gene Autry Trail, just between Salvia Road and Via Escuela in the wash area. According to the Palm Springs Police Department, two vehicles traveling north on Gene Autry slowed down due to blowing sand, but a third vehicle failed to do so.
 
The third vehicle then rear-ended one of the vehicles.
 
As a result, the driver and the two rear passengers in one of the vehicles sustained fatal injuries.
 
The Riverside County Coroner’s Office identified the victims on Monday as 32-year-old Yovani Aguilera Tapia, and 29-year-olds David Losacco and Millicent Lewis. All were Escondido residents.
 
The other people involved had minor to moderate injuries.

Police said high winds that kicked up sand, severely reducing visibility in the area caused the crash. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected factors.
