Water Plant Accident near South Vista Del Mar Kills 43-Year-Old Contractor Worker

 
LOS ANGELES, CA (March 12, 2021) – A contractor worker was killed Monday afternoon in a water plant accident near South Vista Del Mar.
 
The accident happened around 1:18 p.m., March 8, at Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant near 12000 South Vista Del Mar.
 
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the 43-year-old male worker suffered severe trauma from an approximately 25 feet fall to the bottom of a 15′ x 15′ pit-like confined space. The space was mostly dry, with a small amount of moisture at the bottom, utilized for an unknown purpose.
 
Despite life-saving aid from responders, including those specially trained to perform confined space rescues, the worker died at the scene.
 
LAFD responders were at the location to assist the Coroner in removing the victim’s body.
 
Exactly what the worker was doing at the time of the fall has not yet been released. It is also unknown if the worker was wearing appropriate safety equipment at the time of the fall.
 
The unidentified victim was an employee of Murray Co., a Rancho Dominguez, California mechanical contractor.
 
An investigation is ongoing.
