50-Year-Old Woman Dies in Wrong-Way Accident on 680 Freeway in San Jose

 
SAN JOSE, CA (October 26, 2021) – A woman died in a wrong-way accident on 680 Freeway in San Jose Sunday morning.
 
The fatal accident happened shortly after 5:00 a.m. on October 24 near Berryessa Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, the woman was driving a Nissan sedan northbound in the southbound lanes of the freeway when she collided head-on with an oncoming car. The second car then veered off into a third vehicle.
 
The 50-year-old San Jose resident driving the Nissan died at the scene. It is still unknown why she was headed the wrong direction on the freeway.
 
Meanwhile, a person in the second car was taken to a hospital with major injuries. A motorist in the third car sustained minor injuries.
 
The CHP issued a SigAlert at 5:39 a.m. and all southbound lanes were blocked.
 
An investigation into this accident is underway.
