Passenger Dies after Wrong-Way Crash on 680 Freeway in Fremont
FREMONT, CA (October 15, 2023) – A woman died in a wrong-way accident on 680 Freeway in Fremont early Saturday morning on October 14.
The fatal accident happened around 1:15 a.m. near the Auto Mall Parkway off-ramp. According to the California Highway Patrol, a gray Dodge Ram was traveling the wrong way in the left lane of the freeway when it collided with a white BMW 330i.
The impact caused the Dodge to overturn and burst into flames. The Dodge driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was transported to Regional Medical Center of San Jose for treatment of major injuries and burns.
A female passenger in the BMW suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Authorities only described her as someone in her mid 20s.
The BMW driver was transported to Regional Medical Center in San Jose for treatment of unspecified injuries.
At this time, it is unknown if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash, which is still under investigation.
