LA Wrong-Way Driver Dies after Colliding Head-On with Another Car on 105 Freeway in El Segundo
EL SEGUNDO, CA (April 24, 2022) – A woman was killed in a wrong-way accident on 105 Freeway in El Segundo early Saturday morning.
The fatal accident happened around 1:13 a.m. on April 23 just east of Nash Street. According to the California Highway Patrol, the woman was driving a silver 2005 Toyota Camry eastbound in the westbound lanes of the freeway. A black 2017 Toyota Prius, driven by a 35-year-old Manhattan Beach man, was heading westbound.
The driver of the Prius tried to avoid the crash by swerving to the right, but was unsuccessful. The vehicles collided head-on.
As a result, the woman driving the Camry suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. She was a 35-year-old Los Angeles resident.
Paramedics rushed the driver of the Prius to Harbor UCLA Medical Center with major injuries.
It is unknown whether alcohol and/or drugs played a role in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
