Homeless Woman Dies after Struck by Vehicle on Highway 99 in Fresno

 
FRESNO, CA (December 28, 2021) – A woman was killed in a pedestrian accident on Highway 99 in Fresno on Sunday night.
 
The accident happened around 6:00 p.m. on December 26 near Belmont Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 40-year-old female pedestrian was walking along the right shoulder of the highway when the rolling suitcase she was carrying was hit by a truck.
 
The woman reportedly started crawling around the highway as she tried to gather up all of her belongings that spilled out of the suitcase into the road.
 
Minutes later, another car struck the woman. The impact caused her fatal injuries to her head and body. She died at the scene. Authorities said she was homeless.
 
Both drivers stopped and cooperated with officers.
 
An investigation into this fatality is underway.
