Woman Killed, Nicholas Gordon Arrested in DUI Rollover Crash on Highway 78 [Vista, CA]

Authorities Arrest DUI Driver after Deadly Crash on Highway 78 near Melrose Drive

 
VISTA, CA (July 4, 2023) – A woman died and Nicholas Gordon was arrested after a DUI rollover crash in Vista Saturday evening on July 1.
 
The fatal crash happened around 9:27 p.m. on Highway 78, just west of Melrose Drive. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 22-year-old suspect from Vista was driving a white Toyota Corolla westbound on the highway when he rear-ended a white Kia Spectra, driven by the woman.
 
The impact caused both cars to crash into the right shoulder wall and the Kia to roll over.
 
Vista Fire Paramedics responded and pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
 
Authorities only identified the victim as an Oceanside resident.
 
Gordon and his 18-year-old passenger suffered minor to major non-life-threatening injuries.
 
Authorities arrested Gordon on felony charges of driving under the influence and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
 
Further investigation is underway. The CHP urged witnesses to call the Oceanside Area CHP at 760-643-3400.
