Rear-End Crash Involving Dump Truck on Highway 99 in Sacramento Kills One Passenger

SACRAMENTO, CA (August 25, 2023) – A woman died and a man was injured in a rear-end accident on Highway 99 in Sacramento Monday afternoon on August 21.

The fatal accident happened around 2:20 p.m. at the Highway 50 split. According to a California Highway Patrol, a 22-year-old man was driving a Toyota sedan in the second lane from Highway 99 northbound behind a Peterbilt dump truck, driven by a 65-year-old Pacific House man.

The dump truck was slowing down when the Toyota rear-ended it. CHP officials said the driver of the Toyota became distracted and did not see that traffic was slowing down in front of him.

As a result of the crash, the man driving the Toyota suffered major injuries. His passenger, a 22-year-old Sacramento woman, died at the hospital. His rear passengers, a 6-month-old and a 1-year-old, were unharmed.

DUI was not a factor in the crash. Further investigation is underway.

We send our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the victim.
