Driver of Stolen SUV Fatally Strikes Woman on East Street in Anaheim while Fleeing from Police
ANAHEIM, CA (April 23, 2023) – A woman in her 40s was killed in a hit-and-run crash on East Street in Anaheim early Saturday morning.
According to the Anaheim Police Department, a man stole a white BMW X5 in Placentia and led police on a chase. He then struck the female pedestrian in the 700 block of East Street around 1:10 a.m.
After striking the victim, the suspect crashed the SUV into a fence around a home, with the front half of the vehicle coming to rest in the house’s front yard and the back half of the SUV remaining on the sidewalk.
The woman was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Her identity was not immediately available.
Meanwhile, the driver of the stolen SUV fled the scene on foot.
At around 9:10 a.m., Anaheim police responded to a church on the 1400 block of East La Palma Avenue regarding a suspicious person. A man found at the church was determined to be the suspect driver in the fatal crash.
Police arrested the suspect on multiple charges including vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run and DUI.
