Pedestrian Dies after Struck by DUI Hit-and-Run Driver on Lewelling Boulevard in San Leandro

 
SAN LEANDRO, CA (December 20, 2023) – A woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Lewelling Boulevard in San Leandro early Monday morning on December 18.
 
According to the San Leandro Police Department, a vehicle struck the woman in the 600 block of Lewelling Boulevard shortly after 12:00 a.m. It was not clear if the victim was in a crosswalk when she was struck.
 
After the crash, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene without rendering aid.
 
Responding officers found the woman lying in the roadway with severe injuries. They attempted saving her, but she died at the scene.
 
The coroner’s office did not release the victim’s identity pending notification of her next of kin.
 
A short time later, police located the vehicle and the hit-and-run suspect in the parking lot of a nearby business. They arrested the driver on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence and felony hit-and-run.
 
The district attorney is reviewing the case for possible charges.
