Tire Blowout Causes Car to Crash along 680 Freeway in Pleasanton Killing Three People

 
PLEASANTON, CA (December 20, 2023) – Three people died and five others, including two infants, were injured in a car accident on 680 Freeway in Pleasanton Monday afternoon on December 18.
 
The fatal accident happened around 2:35 p.m. at the Sunol Boulevard off-ramp. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2004 Honda Pilot SUV was traveling southbound at approximately 65 mph when there was a blowout to its right rear tire. It then veered to the left, lost control, crossed all traffic lanes and struck a tree.
 
Two adults in the car were pronounced dead at the scene. One was ejected out the rear window and the other was in a rear seat. Both were not wearing seat belts.
 
A woman who was in a rear seat was rushed to a hospital, where she also succumbed to her injuries.

The driver and two infants had minor injuries. Two other passengers also sustained unspecified injuries.

Alcohol and drugs are not suspected as factors in the crash, which is still under investigation.
