Head-On Accident in Lake County Kills Driver, Charmaine Garcia Suffers Major Injuries

 
LAKE COUNTY, CA (August 31, 2021) – A woman died while Charmaine Garcia sustained serious injuries after a head-on accident on Highway 29 in Lake County Thursday morning.
 
The accident happened just after 10:00 a.m. on August 26, near Argonaut Road outside of Lakeport. CHP officials said Garcia, a 66-year-old Kelseyville resident was driving a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee northbound at approximately 50 mph. At the same time, the deceased woman was driving a 1998 Mazda Protégé southbound at 55 mph.
 
For unknown reasons, the Mazda’s driver failed to keep her vehicle on the right half of the roadway and drifted to the left into the northbound traffic lane. Her car then collided head-on with Garcia’s Jeep.
 
As a result, the Mazda’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene. She was not yet identified.
 
Garcia suffered major injuries, including a possible broken foot and broken ribs. Paramedics took her to Sutter Lakeside Hospital for treatment.
 
It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash. The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident.
