Woman Hurt in Head-On Crash on Highway 129 in Watsonville

 
WATSONVILLE, CA (August 25, 2023) — A woman was injured in a head-on accident with a semi-truck on Highway 129 near Murphy Road.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the two-vehicle accident happened around 5:40 a.m. Wednesday. For an unknown reason, a woman operating an eastbound 2006 Kia Sportage crossed the double yellow lines. Subsequently, the Kia veered into the path of a westbound big rig before crashing into the vehicle in a head-on fashion.
 
Upon impact, the Kia traveled off the road and caught fire.
 
Moments later, paramedics responded to the scene and airlifted the woman to Natividad Medical Center with major injuries. The big rig driver — a 37-year-old Modesto resident — reported no injuries in the crash.
 
As far as the investigation goes, authorities have yet to identify the leading factor of the crash. However, authorities do not suspect alcohol or drugs to have played a part.
