Passenger Dies after Car Overturns on Highway 49 in Grass Valley, Driver Arrested for DUI

 
GRASS VALLEY, CA (March 28, 2023) – A woman and a dog died in a DUI crash on Highway 49 in Grass Valley Sunday afternoon on March 26.
 
The fatal crash happened around 3:13 p.m. just north of McKnight Way. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 1996 Subaru Legacy left the roadway, hit a pine tree and overturned.
 
When officers arrived, they found the male driver and his female passenger both trapped in the wreckage. Medical Care was provided to the woman, as she was unresponsive.
 
An air ambulance then took the woman to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries. She was a 36-year-old Grass Valley resident.
 
A dog was also found dead inside the car.
 
The driver, identified as 26-year-old Brian Fogel from Grass Valley, suffered major injuries.
 
Fogel was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, and he remains in custody pending medical treatment.
 
The deadly crash remains under investigation. Authorities urged witnesses to contact the CHP Grass Valley area office at 530-477-4900.
