Woman Killed, Man Hurt in Wrong-Way Crash on 8 Freeway

 
OCEAN BEACH, CA (December 22, 2021) — A woman died in a wrong-way accident on the 8 Freeway near Sunset Cliffs Boulevard on Monday night.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal two-vehicle accident occurred around 11:25 p.m. For DUI-related reasons, a 24-year-old man drove his blue Subaru Outback eastbound in the westbound lanes.
 
Subsequently, the Subaru collided head-on with a gold Toyota Camry, driven by a 54-year-old woman.
 
Shortly after, emergency personnel responded and learned that the woman died at the scene. Meanwhile, paramedics brought the Subaru driver to a hospital with major injuries before police arrested him on suspicion of DUI.
 
At this time, officers have not released the woman’s name. However, an investigation into this case should confirm more details.
