Woman Killed in Head-On Crash on Highway 165 in Merced County

 
MERCED COUNTY, CA (January 13, 2023) — A woman died in a head-on accident on Highway 165 near Westside Boulevard.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the two-vehicle crash happened around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. When Merced Communication Center received the crash report, authorities responded and found several parties injured.
 
According to an investigation, a 17-year-old woman from Los Banos was driving a northbound 2003 Honda Accord on Highway 165. At an unknown speed, she lost control, allowed her car to cross over into the southbound lane and strike a southbound 2010 Dodge Caliber in a head-on fashion. Due to the impact, the Dodge overturned.
 
Soon after, authorities airlifted the 44-year-old female driver of the Dodge to Doctor’s Medical Center in Modesto where she died moments later. A rear passenger of the Honda suffered major injuries to his head and upper body and sought care at Doctors Medical Center while the Honda driver sought care at Mercy Medical Center for major injuries to her legs. Another passenger of the Honda reported only minor injuries and declined medical treatment.
 
At this time, authorities will look further into the crash but have confirmed that the roadways were wet at the time of the accident. Authorities have ruled out drugs and alcohol as possible factors. If anyone has more information, please contact the CHP.
