SACRAMENTO, CA (May 27, 2022) — A woman died while a child suffered major injuries in a DUI accident at Elsie Avenue and Power Inn Road on Thursday.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal two-vehicle crash happened around 8:30 a.m. For DUI reasons, a man driving a white 2006 Chevrolet pickup that was previously seen traveling recklessly ran a red traffic light. Subsequently, the Chevrolet pickup slammed into a silver 2014 Ford Explorer, driven by a 34-year-old Sacramento woman.

Following the accident, Good Samaritans assisted the 32-year-old driver from the pickup only to find him fleeing from the scene. However, the same Good Samaritans were able to capture him until authorities responded shortly after.

The driver of the SUV, who remains unidentified, died at the scene.

The victim’s 4-year-old female passenger suffered major injuries. Paramedics brought the child to a hospital for treatment.

Officers arrested the Elk Grove man on suspicion of DUI.
