Car Plows into Several Teens in Thousand Oaks Killing One and Injuring at Least 5 Others

THOUSAND OAKS, CA (April 22, 2023) – Fifteen-year-old Wesley Welling was struck and killed by a car in Thousand Oaks Tuesday on April 18.

The fatal crash happened around 3:40 p.m. outside of Westlake High School, near the intersection of Thousand Oaks Boulevard and Lakeview Canyon Road. According to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, Welling and his sister were waiting for the bus when 24-year-old Austin Eis struck him and several other teens.

Wesley died at the scene. Three others, another 15-year-old boy, a 14-year-old girl, and a 16-year-old girl, were taken to a hospital. The 14-year-old girl was in critical condition.

All four were students at Westlake High School, according to officials with the Conejo Valley Unified School District.

The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived, but witnesses provided information about the suspect’s vehicle, a white Toyota Camry with missing front bumper.

Early Wednesday morning, police located Eis and arrested him. They booked him into a Ventura County jail on several charges including murder.

Eis was a former student of Westlake High and graduated in 2017. Investigators believe he was experiencing homelessness and living out of his car.

The crash happened shortly after Eis allegedly stabbed a Walmart employee on West Cochran Street in Simi Valley.

GoFundMe account has been created on behalf of Wesley.
