52-Year-Old Woman Dies after Hit by Semi Truck on Highway 99 in Bakersfield

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (July 17, 2023) – Vielka Eleanor Gerardo hit and killed by a semi truck in Bakersfield early Friday morning on July 14.
 
The fatal accident happened around 1:18 a.m. along Highway 99 near Rosedale Highway. According to the California Highway Patrol, Gerardo was walking northbound wearing dark clothing in the number three lane when a 2023 Peterbilt struck her.
 
Gerardo suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. She was 52 years old, according to the Kern County Coroner’s Office.
 
Officials said drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.
