Woman in Wheelchair Dies after Struck by Pickup Truck in Santa Paula

 
SANTA PAULA, CA (August 22, 2023) – Vickie Stevens was hit and killed by a vehicle in Santa Paula Wednesday afternoon on August 16.
 
The fatal crash happened around 2:00 p.m. at the intersection of Steckel Drive and Harvard Boulevard. According to the Santa Paula Police Department, Stevens was using a wheelchair while crossing the intersection when a pickup truck struck her.
 
First responders found Stevens pinned under the vehicle. Firefighters and ambulance personnel performed life-saving measures and removed her from the wreckage.
 
Stevens was rushed to Ventura County Medical Center and later airlifted in critical condition to a hospital in Los Angeles.
 
On Thursday evening, Stevens was pronounced dead at the hospital. She was 68 years old from Santa Paula.
 
The driver of the pickup truck, a 31-year-old Santa Paula man, was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI causing great bodily injury.
 
Further investigation is underway.
