Police Arrest Sonia Sovereign after Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash in Griffith Park Area

 
GRIFFITH PARK, CA (October 10, 2022) – Valeriy Saakyan died in a hit-and-run crash on Fern Dell Drive in the Griffith Park area of Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon, October 8.
 
The crash was reported as an assault with a deadly weapon at 2:30 p.m. in the 2400 block of Fern Dell Drive. According to Los Angeles Police Department, the 70-year-old victim was driving a blue 2006 Lexus when he got into an argument with 32-year-old Sonia Sovereign. He lost his footing and fell off the car.
 
Sovereign got into the car, intentionally run over Saakyan and drove off.
 
Responding paramedics found Saakyan in the middle of the street. They rushed him to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
 
On Sunday, the LAPD announced that Sovereign had been located and taken into custody. The car she was driving had traffic collision damage and a blue tarp over it when officers spotted it at around 10:00 a.m. in Hollywood.
 
Police arrested Sovereign for murder at $1 million bail.
