Fiery Crash on Highway 18 in Victorville Sends 2 Teens to Hospital
VICTORVILLE, CA (May 29, 2024) – Two teens were airlifted in a car accident on Highway 18 in Victorville Tuesday night on May 28.
The accident happened around 6:09 p.m. just before Stoddard Wells Road. According to the Victorville Police Department, a 2003 Ford Crown Victorian Police Interceptor was traveling on the highway when it crossed over the center median and into the opposing lanes of traffic. It then traversed several large boulders along the shoulder of the highway.
The vehicle, occupied by 17 and 18-year-old males, became lodged on the rocks with major damage and caught fire.
Responding firefighters were able to extinguish the flames. They requested two helicopters to airlift the two teens to out-of-area trauma centers.
According to witnesses at the scene, the two young men were scheduled to graduate from Granite High School on Wednesday. The conditions of the teens were not immediately available.
The cause of the crash and factors involved remain under investigation.
