Two Men Got into a Fight after Traffic Accident on 5 Freeway

SAN DIEGO, CA (March 11, 2022) — Two men brawled after a traffic crash on 5 Freeway near downtown San Diego on Tuesday, March 8.

According to California Highway Patrol, callers rushed to the crash at around 4:15 p.m. on southbound 5 Freeway. Within minutes, witnesses said one of the drivers began punching and kicking another man.

Arturo Gonzalez caught the fight on video as he sat in a traffic jam due to the men fighting in the middle lane before rush hour.

The video showed a man in a red shirt in a brawl with a man wearing an orange shirt. After the fight, both walked away. It wasn’t initially clear if either man suffered injuries.

Gonzalez said he tried to stay safe and uninvolved as he passed the brawl in the emergency lane. He begins to drive off as the men move out of his way.

CHP said the vehicles and men seen in the video match the descriptions provided. In a statement, CHP spokesman Jesse Matias said both men had left the scene before officers arrived.

Neither involved in the fight called CHP to report it. As of Wednesday evening, there had been no arrests announced in connection to the incident.
