Man and Woman Fatally Struck by Vehicle after Exiting their Car on Highway 17 in Campbell

 
CAMPBELL, CA (May 29, 2023) – Two people were killed in a pedestrian accident on Highway 17 near downtown Campbell early Friday morning on May 26.
 
The fatal accident happened around 4:12 a.m. near the Hamilton exit in the southbound direction. According to the California Highway Patrol, a man and a woman in a 2000 Mercedes got out of the car when it came to a stop in the right lanes for unknown reasons.
 
After they exited the vehicle, a 2015 Fiat, also traveling southbound, swerved to avoid the Mercedes and struck the two people.
 
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. They woman was rushed to a hospital, where she also died a short time later. Their identities were withheld pending confirmation and notification of their next of kin.
 
The driver of the Fiat, a 22-year-old San Jose man, only sustained minor injuries.
 
At this time, the crash remains under investigation.
