Two-Vehicle Accident on Highway 1 near Orcutt Leaves 2 People Dead

 
ORCUTT, CA (July 3, 2022) – Two people were killed in a two-vehicle accident on Highway 1 near Orcutt late Saturday evening on July 2.
 
The accident happened around 11:13 p.m. just north of Highway 135. According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, a Honda Civic was traveling northbound on Highway 1 at a high rate of speed. At the same time, a Nissan Sentra was traveling in the same direction of the highway at 65 mph. Both were approaching the intersection of Highway 135.
 
The Honda struck the Nissan causing left-rear intrusion damage. The Nissan careened to the right shoulder, while the Honda rolled over and landed back on its wheels in the median.
 
After the crash, the driver of the Honda exited his vehicle into the southbound traffic lanes. An approaching GMC Yukon then struck him.
 
The driver of the Honda suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
 
As backseat passenger of the Nissan was also killed in the crash.
 
Four other people were injured. Two of them, including a pedestrian, had moderate injuries. The other two only sustained minor injuries.
 
At this time, police are still investigating the crash.
