2 Youths Riding E-Bike Suffer Serious Injuries after Struck by Car near Walnut Street in Simi Valley
SIMI VALLEY, CA (May 23, 2023) – Two juveniles were injured after an e-bike accident near Walnut Street and Galveston Avenue in Simi Valley on Saturday morning.
The accident happened just after 9:30 a.m. on May 20, in a residential neighborhood. According to the Simi Valley Police Department, two male youths had been riding an electric bicycle south on Galveston. They did not stop for the stop sign at Walnut before heading into the intersection when a vehicle struck them.
As a result, the two juveniles suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Paramedics took one of them to Los Robles Regional Medical Center and the other to Northridge Hospital Medical Center.
A man driving the vehicle with a female passenger was heading eastbound on Walnut at or below the speed limit. They were not injured.
The juveniles were not wearing a helmet. California law requires residents younger than 18 to wear a helmet when riding a bicycle or electric bike, including as a passenger.
At this time, the crash is still under investigation. Police asked anyone with further information to call traffic officer Brett Suliga at 805-583-6180.
When riding a bicycle, make sure you wear cycling gear and equipment that will make you more visible. If there is a bike lane, ride in that lane. And when approaching a stop sign, make sure to slow down and come to a complete stop just before the sign. Scan for any oncoming vehicles, and keep an eye out for possible road hazards.
