Drunk Driver Causes Crash on Highway 119 in Taft Injuring 3 Passengers

 
TAFT, CA (June 21, 2023) – Three people were injured and Apolonia Garciavelasco was arrested after a DUI crash in Taft Saturday evening on June 17.
 
The crash happened on Highway 119 just south of Gardner Field Road. According to the Taft Police Department, the 25-year-old suspect was driving a Toyota Corolla northbound on the highway when he drifted into the oncoming lanes and collided with a gray Toyota Camry that was traveling southbound.
 
As a result, three passengers in both cars suffered minor to moderate injuries. Paramedics transported them to a hospital for treatment.
 
Police arrested Garciavelasco and booked him into the Kern County Sheriff’s Central Receiving facility in Bakersfield Facility for suspicion driving under the influence of alcohol causing bodily injury, driving without a license, and no proof of insurance at the scene of a collision.
 
Further investigation is underway.
