Fiery Crash in Merced County Kills 29-Year-Old Fremont Man
MERCED COUNTY, CA (June 21, 2023) – Kevin Nguyen was killed in a fiery accident in Merced County late Thursday evening on June 15.
The fatal accident happened around 11:10 p.m. in the area of North Bear Creek Drive, just west of Parsons Avenue. According to the CHP, a 2021 BMW sedan was traveling west on North Bear Creek Drive when it left the roadway for unknown reasons. It then collided with several large trees and burst into flames.
Nguyen, who was the driver of the BMW, died at the scene. He was a 29-year-old Fremont resident, according to the Merced County Sheriff Coroner’s Office.
Minutes before the deadly crash, officers said the BMW was involved in a hit-and-run property damage crash. The BMW reportedly rear-ended a 2023 Honda Civic as both vehicles were traveling south on McKee Road just north of North Bear Creek Drive.
The crash caused minor damage to the Honda. The driver of the Honda was unharmed.
At this time, it is unknown if alcohol or drugs was a factor. An investigation is ongoing.
