MERCED, CA (December 15, 2023) — Teri Lynn Wharton is fighting for her life after being struck by a DUI hit-and-run driver in a pedestrian accident on G Street at Olive Avenue.
 
According to reports, the hit-and-run happened on November 22. Under unclear circumstances, Horacio Garcilazo struck Wharton in a marked crosswalk and left the scene. Fortunately, a witness tended to Wharton’s side before paramedics brought her to Doctors Hospital in Modesto where she currently awaits more surgeries.
 
Following the accident, Merced police arrested Garcilazo for felony DUI and felony hit-and-run. Since the accident, Wharton has undergone multiple surgeries due to a broken jaw, hips, spine and legs.
