17-Year-Old Boy Dies in Merced County Rollover Accident on Turlock Road

 
MERCED COUNTY, CA (July 6, 2021) – A 17-year-old boy was killed in a rollover accident on Turlock Road in Merced County Saturday morning.
 
The accident happened around 9:50 a.m. on July 3, just east of Looney Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, the teen was driving a 2002 Toyota Corolla eastbound on Turlock Road at approximately 55 mph.
 
For unknown reasons, the teen allowed the Corolla to veer into the westbound lane and then off the shoulder of the road. He tried to steer the car back onto the road, but overcorrected. The Corolla then rolled over several times and landed on back on its wheels.
 
As a result, the teen driver suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was a McFarland resident.
 
There were two other teen passengers in the vehicle, a 16-year-old boy from Delano and a 16-year-old boy from McFarland. They were able to get out of the vehicle on their own and both sustained minor injuries. Paramedics transported both to Mercy Medical Center in Merced for treatment.
 
At this time, drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
