16-Year-Old Passenger Dies after Car Overturns in Morro Bay, Driver Orion Messina Arrested for DUI

 
MORRO BAY, CA (December 13, 2022) – A passenger died and police arrested Orion Messina for DUI after their car overturned in Morro Bay Saturday on December 10.
 
The fatal crash happened shortly before noon, just south of Bear Ridge Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 19-year-old suspect from Atascadero was driving a 2004 Suzuki Grand Vitara southbound on the highway at approximately 55 mph.
 
For unknown reasons, the vehicle hydroplaned when it entered a right-hand curve. It then crashed into a hillside and overturned.
 
As a result, the 16-year-old passenger who was not wearing a seatbelt was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. He was also from Atascadero.
 
Meanwhile, Messina was unharmed. Police arrested him for driving under the influence of alcohol.
