One Killed, Steven Kay Arrested after Watsonville Hit-and-Run Bicycle Crash

WATSONVILLE, CA (December 1, 2021)Steven Kay faces charges in a fatal hit-and-run bicycle accident on Green Valley Road at Littleway Lane.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 1:50 a.m. Saturday. Under unclear circumstances, 55-year-old Kay struck a 25-year-old Watsonville man on a bike with his 2005 Toyota Matrix.
 
Soon after, deputies responded to find the driver unaccounted for and the victim on the ground before he died at the scene. Not long after, officers arrested Kay for committing hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter.
 
At this time, detectives have determined that the cyclist was riding northbound on Green Valley Road when the Toyota struck him from behind. Although alcohol and drugs have been ruled out as components of the accident, an investigation continues.
