Fresno Police Officer Dies in Bicycle Crash in Shaver Lake

 
SHAVER LAKE, CA (July 31, 2022) – Fresno police officer Steve Hunt was killed in a bicycle accident in Shaver Lake on Saturday morning, July 30.
 
The fatal accident happened just after 10:30 a.m. near the Wishon Campground. According to the Fresno Police Department, Hunt was riding his bicycle north on the right-hand shoulder when for unknown reasons, he veered from the eastbound to the westbound lanes and into the path of a black Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, which was traveling west at 15 to 20 mph.
 
The pickup truck collided with the bicycle, causing Hunt fatal injuries.
 
Hunt, a 59-year-old Clovis resident, died at the scene.
 
The Tacoma driver, a 54-year-old from Lemoore, was unharmed.
 
Hunt had been a member of the department since 1989. He had just submitted his paperwork to retire at the end of August.
 
An investigation into this fatal crash is underway.
