Ryan Cowper Detained in Deadly Drunk Driving Crash on Highway 29 near Big Tree Road
NAPA COUNTY, CA (January 30, 2023) — Ryan Cowper was arrested in a fatal DUI accident on Highway 29 near Big Tree Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal single-car crash happened around 11:30 p.m. Sunday. For DUI reasons, 26-year-old Ryan William Cowper lost control of his 2019 Toyota Tacoma truck on southbound Highway 29. As a result, his vehicle struck a tree north of St. Helena.
His male passenger, a resident of Fallbrook in San Diego County, suffered fatal injuries in the accident. CHP officers have yet to release his name pending notification of family members.
Cowper suffered minor injuries and received care at Providence Queen of the Valley Medical Center. Subsequently, officers arrested him for gross vehicular manslaughter by DUI and booked him into Napa County Jail on $500,000 bail.
