Rufino Lopez Detained in Deadly DUI Crash on Highway 152 at Lovers Lane

 
SAN BENITO, CA (January 4, 2024) — Rufino Lopez was arrested following a fatal DUI accident on Highway 152 at Lovers Lane.
 
According to California Highway Patrol officers, the fatal two-car crash happened around 12:44 a.m. Monday. For DUI-related reasons, Rufino Vasquez Lopez turned left onto Highway 152 from Lovers Lane but crashed into an eastbound 2017 Chevy Silverado on the highway. As a result of the crash, a 45-year-old San Jose woman sitting in Lopez’s 2016 Nissan Rogue suffered fatal injuries. Officials have not yet released the fatal victim’s name.
 
The 60-year-old woman driving the Chevy Silverado suffered major injuries and two of her passengers reported minor injuries.
 
Following an investigation, detectives arrested 48-year-old Lopez, of Gilroy, for driving under the influence. Authorities learned that the two vehicles collided head-on as he turned left onto the highway.
