Rufino Canete Killed in Pedestrian Accident on Midway Drive [San Diego, CA]

65-Year-Old Man Dies after Struck by Pickup Truck in Midway District Area

 
SAN DIEGO, CA (January 9, 2024) – Rufino Canete died in a pedestrian accident in the Midway District area of San Diego Tuesday night on January 2.
 
The fatal accident happened just before 7:00 p.m. in the 3800 block of Midway Drive, just south of Sports Arena Boulevard. According to the San Diego Police Department, Canete walked across the street on Midway Drive and stopped at the center divider to allow northbound traffic to pass. As he continued crossing the street, a 62-year-old woman driving a Chevrolet pickup truck had a steady green light when she struck Canete.
 
The driver of the pickup truck immediately stopped and called 911.
 
First responders performed life-saving measures, but Canete was pronounced dead at the scene.
 
Canete was 65 years old of San Diego, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
 
The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.
