18-Year-Old Rodolfo Monarrez Killed after Pickup Truck Crashes into Concrete Pillar in Bakersfield

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (January 18, 2024) – Authorities identified 18-year-old Rodolfo Pulgarin Monarrez of Shafter as one of the two men killed in a solo-vehicle crash on Highway 99, early Sunday morning.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on January 14, at about 4:07 a.m. For reasons still under investigation, a Ford pickup truck veered off the roadway and hit a metal guardrail. Then, the vehicle collided with a concrete pillar near Wible Road.
 
Emergency crews pronounced Monarrez and his unidentified passenger dead at the scene. As per reports, the passenger was Monarrez’s co-worker.
 
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Monarrez’s family cover funeral costs.
 
CHP continues to investigate the cause of the fatal accident. Officers will release additional information once it becomes available.
