Rollover Accident on 8 Freeway near Old Highway 80 Kills Claudia Hefley and Razhae Shepard
LAKESIDE, CA (February 18, 2022) – Two people died while two others sustained injures after a car went off 8 Freeway in San Diego County on Saturday morning.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the deceased as 44-year old San Diego resident Razhae Tranell Shepard and 51-year-old San Diego resident Claudia Jeanne Hefley.
The accident happened on February 12 just west of Old Highway 80 undercrossing. Police believe the solo-car crash occurred around 2:00 a.m.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Shepard drove westbound in a 2005 Toyota Camry Solara when the vehicle veered off the road and struck a tree. After hitting the tree, the vehicle rolled and came to rest on its left side.
A 46-year-old passenger got out and walked away, apparently looking for help. He was found about a mile west of the crash site around 3:00 a.m. and transported to a hospital to be treated for injuries. CHP officers searched the area for a crash site. However, police located the vehicle a few hours later around 6:15 a.m.
Police located Shepard pinned in the driver’s seat and Hefley in the rear passenger seat. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police extricated another passenger, a 49-year-old man, and transported them to the hospital with major injuries.
