Police Officer Involved in Accident on Lerdo Highway near Cherry Avenue in Shafter

 
SHAFTER, CA (January 18, 2022) – A vehicle struck and injured a police officer in an accident on Lerdo Highway on January 16.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened between Cherry Avenue and North Driver Road.
 
Based on a report, the victim was outside of his patrol vehicle assisting drivers in a separate collision. The vehicle’s trunk was open and its emergency lights were activated. Visibility due to the fog was about 150 to 200 feet. Subsequently, a woman driving a 2002 Honda Accord in the left-most lane did not see the emergency lights and hit the rear of the patrol vehicle.
 
As a result, one of the vehicles hit the officer and he suffered major injuries. It was not clear if the patrol vehicle or the Honda struck the victim.
 
As of now, officials with the Shafter Police Department are still investigating the case.
