Pilot Dies in Sylmar Airplane Accident near Sayre Street

 
SYLMAR, CA (April 21, 2022) — A pilot died in an airplane crash near Sayre Street and the 210 Freeway on Wednesday afternoon.
 
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the fatal plane crash happened near the westbound Foothill 210 Freeway around 12:30 p.m.
 
For unknown reasons, the plane struck a bank of trees before hitting the ground near the freeway’s westbound lanes after having departed Whiteman Airport in Pacoima. Shortly after, firefighters responded and quickly contained a small fuel leak and found the pilot with fatal injuries.
 
Fortunately, a fire did not erupt from the crash, reports say.
 
At this time, the victim’s name and the ultimate cause of the accident require more examination. Thus, anyone who can help the National Transportation Safety Board should contact the department.
