Person Dies in Pedestrian Accident on Highway 99 in Delano

 
DELANO, CA (August 2, 2022) — One person died in a pedestrian crash on Highway 99 near Cecil Avenue on Saturday night.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal pedestrian accident happened around 9:30 p.m. For unknown reasons, a pedestrian began crossing in a southwesterly direction and crossed into the path of a northbound Audi driven by 40-year-old J. Wenger, of Fresno.
 
The Audi, traveling about 70 miles per hour in the fast lane, struck the pedestrian, throwing the man into the lane over where a northbound Chevrolet, driven by 20-year-old I. Lopez, of Earlimart, struck him.
 
Shortly after, paramedics responded to the scene and found neither driver injured. Although, they did confirm the pedestrian dead on arrival.
 
At this time, authorities do not know why the man began crossing the highway. However, an ongoing investigation should confirm any unclear details.
