Pedestrian Suffers Grave Injuries after Hit by Drunk Driver in Chico

 
CHICO, CA (January 29, 2024) – A pedestrian was severely injured in DUI crash at West Eighth Street and Main Street in downtown Chico early Saturday morning.
 
The crash happened around 2:00 a.m. on January 27. According to the Chico Police Department, 30-year-old Vitaly Smith of Chico was driving a vehicle when he struck the pedestrian at the intersection.
 
When officers arrived, they found the pedestrian in the roadway with severe, life-threatening injuries.
 
Smith remained on scene and cooperated with officers as they administered a field sobriety test.
 
Police later arrested Smith for driving under the influence of alcohol.
