32-Year-Old Man Dies after Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver on Columbus Street in Bakersfield

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (February 22, 2024) – A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Columbus Street in northeast Bakersfield Wednesday evening on February 21.
 
The fatal crash happened around 9:29 p.m. at the intersection with Rice Street. According to the Bakersfield Police Department, a dark sedan was traveling eastbound in the 2500 block of Columbus Street when it struck the 32-year-old male pedestrian who was walking northbound in an unmarked crosswalk.
 
After the crash, the driver of the sedan took off without rendering aid.
 
First responders found the pedestrian dead lying in the middle of the road. They attempted saving him, but he died at the scene.
 
It was not immediately known if speed or impairment were factors in the crash. An investigation is underway.
