Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Hit-and-Run Vehicle on Highway 163 in San Diego

 
SAN DIEGO, CA (February 29, 2024) — A pedestrian was hit and killed by a hit-and-run driver on Highway 163 near the 5 Freeway.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal hit-and-run happened around 6:00 a.m. Wednesday. Under unclear circumstances, a driver struck a man walking within the southbound lanes of Highway 163. Soon after, CHP officers arrived and found the man near the center median with major injuries. However, despite efforts to save him, authorities pronounced him deceased at the scene.
 
Due to the investigation, officers blocked the two right lanes on the southbound side and diverted motorists onto the north and southbound 5 Freeway lanes.
