Pedestrian Hit, Killed by Vehicle in 2-Car Crash on Osborne Street in Arleta
ARLETA, CA (April 26, 2024) — A pedestrian hit by a car involved in a 2-car accident on Osborne Street at the 5 Freeway off-ramp died.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal pedestrian accident happened around 8:46 p.m. Wednesday. For an unknown reason, a southbound 2012 Toyota Prius driver traveling on the Osborne Street off-ramp lost control of the wheel. Subsequently, the Prius struck a 40-year-old pedestrian on the sidewalk and a westbound 2018 Hyundai Tucson traveling on Osborne Street.
Soon after, paramedics responded and confirmed one fatality: the pedestrian who appeared to be unhoused. Two occupants in the Toyota reported minor injuries and the Hyundai driver was unharmed.
At the time of the report, traffic investigators ruled out impairment as a possible explanation for the crash. However, if anyone can help traffic investigators, please call Officer Soto at (626) 296-8100.
