Pedestrian Struck, Injured by Vehicle on Highway 101 in Oxnard

OXNARD, CA (May 8, 2023) — A pedestrian was hit and injured by a car on Highway 101 near Rose Avenue Thursday.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the pedestrian accident happened around 3:15 p.m. For an unknown reason, a 49-year-old man reportedly running in the traffic lanes, bolted across the northbound lanes toward the southbound side. As rain fell from the sky, the man leaped over the concrete median but was immediately hit by a southbound 2017 Chevrolet 3500.

Due to the impact, the pedestrian was sent to the third right southbound lane. Paramedics reached the scene minutes later and sought care at Ventura County Medical Center for major injuries.

Investigators did not believe the 63-year-old Camarillo man driving the Chevrolet was under the influence. However, it’s unclear whether impairment played a part in the pedestrian.

If anyone has more to add to this crash, please call the CHP.

It is dangerous to cross or meander along highways and freeways. Drivers should be aware of their surroundings. Look out for anything unusual, including pedestrians trying to cross the highway lanes. Limit distractions and direct your full attention to the road.
