Head-On Crash in Del Rio Leaves Four People Dead

 
DEL RIO, CA (April 11, 2024) – Patricia Lopez, Clara Howells, Angeles Escoto and Francis Catano were killed in a head-on accident in Del Rio Tuesday afternoon on April 9.
 
The fatal accident happened just after 4:00 p.m. on McHenry Avenue at Hogue Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, a Mitsubishi sedan was traveling the wrong way when it crossed over into the opposite lanes and collided head-on with a Toyota SUV.
 
Escoto, a 19-year-old Merced resident, was the driver of the sedan. Catano, 23, also from Merced, was her passenger. Both died at the scene.
 
Lopez, a 60-year-old Turlock resident, was the driver of the SUV. She had a 1-year-old baby in the vehicle with her, identified as Clara Howells. Both died at area hospitals.
 
Two other vehicles collided with the Mitsubishi and Toyota. The occupants of those vehicles were unharmed.
 
The cause of the crash and factors involved remain under investigation.
