Passenger Dies after Car Crashes into Flood Channel in West Covina, DUI Suspect Arrested

 
WEST COVINA, CA (April 25, 2023) – A passenger died and Jose Felix Tamayo-Juarez was arrested after DUI crash in West Covina early Sunday morning on April 23.
 
The fatal crash happened around 12:05 a.m. at the intersection of Valinda Avenue and Glendora Avenue. According to the West Covina Police Department, a vehicle had crashed into a flood channel in unclear circumstances.
 
One of the passengers inside the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was not yet identified.
 
Tamayo-Juarez, a 24-year-old Victorville resident, was the driver of the vehicle. He only sustained minor injuries.
 
Police arrested Tamayo-Juarez on suspicion of felony drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter. They booked him at the West Covina jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
 
An investigation is ongoing. Police urged anyone with information about the crash to call them at 626-939-8589.
