Passenger Dies after DUI Crash on Highway 12 at Wards Avenue

 
WALLACE, CA (January 23, 2023) – One person died and Robert Hooe was hurt in a DUI crash on Highway 12 in the Wallace area Wednesday morning on January 18.
 
The fatal crash happened around 11:44 a.m. at the Wards Avenue intersection, just south of Camache Reservoir. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2001 Ford Taurus was heading eastbound on Highway 12 when it went off the roadway for unknown reasons. The driver, a 26-year-old Lodi man, overcorrected sending the vehicle into oncoming traffic.
 
The Taurus then broadsided a 1999 Buick Park Avenue, driven by 73-year-old Robert Hooe of Stockton.
 
As a result of the crash, the 23-year-old female passenger of the Taurus from Stockton, died at the scene.
 
The driver of the Taurus suffered major injuries and was flown to U.C. Davis Hospital in Sacramento. Police later arrested him for DUI.
 
Meanwhile, Hooe sustained minor injuries.
 
This fatality is still under investigation.
