Fatal Pedestrian Accident on Highway 99 in Merced County

 
MERCED COUNTY, CA (February 2, 2021) – One person died in a pedestrian accident on Highway 99 in Merced County, Sunday morning.
 
The pedestrian accident happened around 6:00 a.m. near the Atwater-Merced Expressway.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the pedestrian was trying to cross Highway 99 in the southbound lanes when a vehicle struck them. While lying in the roadway, the victim was run over by two other vehicles, including a big rig.
 
As a result, the victim suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
 
Officials said the drivers stopped and cooperated. They were not under the influence during the crash.
 
An investigation into the pedestrian accident on Highway 99 is ongoing. At this time, police did not release any additional information. However, any witness who saw the accident is encouraged to contact your local police as soon as possible.
